Low aspartate transaminase activity in serum of patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis.

چکیده
Serum, 2 ml, was assayed colorimetrically with the “SMA 12/60 AutoAnalyzer” (Technicon Instruments Corp., Tarrytown, N.Y. 10591). Colorimetric determination (at 45#{176}C) of AST with the SMA 12/60 is based on the coupling reaction of a diazonium salt of N-butyl4-methoxymetanilamide with oxaloacetic acid produced when AST acts on ketoglutarate. AST activity of the same serum specimen was determined manually by an enzymatic ultraviolet technique (1). Normal values range up to 40 U. The lactic acid content of each serum was determined by the following procedure. Lactate is reduced to pyruvate by adding excess NAD. Glycine-hydrazine buffer is added, and pyruvic acid hydrazine is formed. This is a quantitative conversion, and the amount of NADH formed is measured on the Beckman DU at a wavelength of 340 nm (3). Transaminase activities in serum of long-term hemodialysis patients.
Wolf et al. (1) found little or no serum aspartate aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.1) activity in the sera of 11 of 19 patients undergoing long-term hemodialysis. The authors concluded that low aminotransferase (transaminase) activities seen in these patients may have been due to loss of the enzyme and (or) to pynidoxine depletion during long-term dialysis. We recently examined the sera of 54 long-t...
متن کاملLiver enzymes serum levels in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis: a comprehensive review
We reviewed the literature regarding the serum levels of the enzymes aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and gamma-glutamyl transferase in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis with and without viral hepatitis. Original articles published up to January 2013 on adult patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis were selected. These articles contained the ...

Introduction: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a sensorimotor disorder characterized by an unpleasant sensation in the legs. This syndrome is a common, yet unrecognized, disorder. The aim of this project was to study the prevalence and correlations of RLS in chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis in Shahid Rahnemon hospital, Yazd (Iran). Materials and Methods: This descriptive cr...

Low baseline serum albumin a predictor of anemia in patients on chronic hemodialysis
Background: Inflammatory process has a substantial contribution in the development of anemia in chronic hemodialysis patients. Low serum albumin in hemodialysis patients is considered a marker of inflammation. The present longitudinal study aimed to determine the relationship between low baseline serum albumin and future development of anemia. Methods: The population of this study consiste...
